23rd Artistry in Wood in Dayton, Ohio

Written by Lori Trickler

Nearly 6,000 people enjoyed the experience this past November as they meandered among the 300 booths of woodcarvers and woodworkers from 20 states and Canada at the 23rd annual Artistry in Wood Show in Dayton, Ohio. Wide, carpeted aisles with all 30 vendors grouped together and the 183 exhibitors located at the center of the spacious Expo center made shopping quite uncomplicated.

Artistry in Wood demonstrations are an important part of the show. Visitors recognize it as a good place to obtain free knowledge from some of the top artists in the carving world. It’s always fun, and some of the carvers could double as stand-up comedians.

Our first demonstrator was Leah Wachter, Sarasota Fla., who was on “cloud nine” since she won the best-of-show award this year. She explained her layer painting and how she paints her darkest color first and then adds up to sometimes five different shades of colors until the final highlights. I think she had several layers of well deserved “glow” herself; congratulations Leah.

Make plans to see our 2005 show on November 12 and 13, at the Dayton International Airport Exposition Center, just off I-75 at Exit #64, Northwoods Blvd. Maybe you would like to organize a bus trip to our show, as many groups did, to share the experience. You will be delighted you attended, because the Artistry in Wood Show carves a big impression on people!
