Spectacular Tenth Year at Dollywood

By Carole Williams

For ten years many carvers have made a trip to east Tennessee to enjoy the beautiful weather, viewthe trees starting to show their color and visit the Dollywood theme park which is adorned with beautiful fall decorations. But the main attraction is the annual Dollywood Woodcarving Showcase. A wide variety of events designed to develop interest and promote woodcarving punctuated this tenth year show held on October 5 through 7, 2001. Carvers from 16 states arrived in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., on Thursday to set up for the three days of competitions, demonstrations and exhibitions.

Judging began early Friday morning with nine judges selecting the top awards in each of the 55 categories. From these winners, the judges selected carvings for the “Top 25” display, and from these 25 carvings the carvers decided the Carver’s Choice Award and the park’s guests selected the People’s Choice Award …

October 4-6 are the dates of the 11th annual Dollywood Woodcarving Showcase; this is also the first weekend of Dollywood’s Harvest Celebration. Carvers from across the country will be exhibiting their works and also competing for ribbons and prize money in five different carving competitions.
