Chimp by Pat Ficarra
Pat Ficarra of Lodi, N.J., has always wanted a chimpanzee of his own.
Practicality (and his wife), however, dictated otherwise. So earlier
this year when he came across photos of chimps in a magazine, Pat
decided it was high time he carved one.
At approximately 11" tall, the basswood primate is surrounded by carved
rock and tree, embellished with real vegetation from the garden. The
piece is finished with acrylic paints. Pat figures he completed the
carving during a one-month period; however, he did not carve exclusively
on this particular project.
A member of The Whittle Ones carving club in Saddlebrook, N.J., Pat has
been carving wood seriously for about ten years now.
