The weekend of July 12 and 13, 1997, proved to be another exciting two days of woodcarving competition with nearly 300 wonderful entries entered into 29 categories and divisions at the Sawmill Center for the Arts, Cooksburg, Pa. Amateur to professional carvers vied for not only cash and beautiful ribbons, but honors and the keen fun of entering the Sawmill’s 13th annual show. Adding to the weekend activities were an outdoor All-Wood Craft Show, Whittling Contests, Soap Carving Contests for the kids, demonstrations, and so much more.

A good time was had by all whether serious competitor, rank beginner or the visitor who had never carved anything but the Thanksgiving turkey. First place winners included professional carver Clyde Taylor of Burdett, N.Y. (see cover photo).

This article, pictures of the carvings mentioned here, and MUCH more can be found in Chip Chats Volume 45, Issue #1.
