About the NWCA

NWCA Mission
The National Wood Carvers Association is dedicated to the interests of amateur and professional carvers and whittlers.

NWCA Activities
The NWCA is probably best known for its publication, Chip Chats. Six times a year, NWCA members receive Chip Chats, a magazine full of “how-to” information, show results, features on woodcarvers, and more.

NWCA History
Ever since its humble beginning in 1953, National Wood Carvers Association has shown remarkable success and growth, boasting members in every U.S. state and many other countries around the globe.

NWCA's aims are to promote the woodcarving fellowship among its members, encourage exhibitions and area get-togethers, list tool and wood suppliers, and find markets for those who sell their work - in short, anything that aids the carver and/or whittler.

Many distinguished professional wood-carvers in the U.S. and abroad share their know-how with fellow members. NWCA proudly lists several internationally famous authors of carving books on its roster.

NWCA Membership
Membership dues are US$16 per year (US$18 for residents of Canada and US$22 for all others). This covers costs of publishing and mailing Chip Chats, a bi-monthly magazine. Chip Chats contains articles and news of general interest, patterns, helpful hints and ideas, book reviews, sales outlets, etc. Membership is open to everyone who carves and/or whittles, amateur or professional, and to persons who do not carve but have a reverence for the art.

If you haven't already, join all the other woodcarving enthusiasts in the NWCA. For membership form and instructions, click here.

Use email for general correspondence, letters to the editor, requests for local club information, to find out more about our annual sources issue, for address changes and updates… Just about anything that doesn’t involve payments… (see our Member Services page for instructions on some of the common types of correspondence).

By the way, there have been some emails that get “filtered” off by our email provider as “suspected spam.” Please don’t take that personally if yours happens to be one of them. After you’ve sent us an email at the address above, if you haven’t heard back from the office staff within a day or two of sending your email, you can try again or try our snail mail address below.

Finally, as much as we love working on this magazine there are times when we are away on vacation. If you haven’t heard from us in a day or two around a major US Holiday (like the 4th of July or New Year’s), be patient. We’ll be back at work and our email soon, and you’ll get a response via email as soon as possible. Thanks for understanding.
